SMM 2018 - Shipbuilding, Machinery & Marine Technology
Joint booth Fraunhofer Waterborne, Fraunhofer Transport Alliance
Hall B6, Booth 319
Miscommunication is a major trigger for maritime incidents. To counter language barriers in multilingual crews, the IMO Standard Marine Communication Phrases (SMCP) have been introduced. The Branch Hearing, Speech and Audio Technology of Fraunhofer IDMT in Oldenburg presents a dialogue-oriented training system for SMCP based on automatic speech recognition. Research objective is to further improve ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore communication by integrating speech recognition in communication systems.
On September 5 the working group Waterborne of the Fraunhofer Transport Alliance hosts the Fraunhofer Waterborne Forum within the scope of the SMM 2018. Representatives of Fraunhofer and industrial partners discuss their latest findings regarding »Shipping Under Extreme Conditions«. The event consists of specialist lectures, which are supplemented by a conclusive discussion and a demonstration of the exhibits at the Fraunhofer Stand.
