A virtual assistant with which listeners adjust their sound preferences in just a few steps.

Developers at the Oldenburg Branch for Hearing, Speech and Audio Technology HSA have come up with a simple and elegant way to personalize sound and dynamics in a wide variety of applications. The newly developed audio software allows individual sound settings without having to deal with complex sub-menus or parameters. With »YourSound« users of audio devices, e.g. multimedia platforms or smartphones can adjust the audio to their personal needs and preferences - in a playful way and without knowledge of levels or frequencies.

The technology relies on the presentation of music signals, which users can adjust to their preference with a simple user interface. Once set, the individual presets have a positive effect on the overall sound. This results in a better listening experience, no matter at which sound volume or driving situation. Thus, thanks to the new algorithms of Fraunhofer IDMT, the sound of music and films is optimally adapted to individual hearing preferences.

Individual sound in the car

Studies show that sound is perceived very individually, regardless of age, hearing ability and user behavior – even in the car. However, common adjustment options, such as equalizers, often have a deterrent effect due to their complexity and thus act as obstacles when it comes to configuring the personal sound. So a lack of usability and hearing effort hold potential risks while driving. 

The sound concept for individual adjusting is able to improve the user experience for all car passengers. Our new algorithms im combination with intuitive user interfaces decrease handling errors.

For a maximum of sound experience the quality of speech and music is also important. A better acoustic intelligibility does not only enhance the level of comfort, it also reduces manual adaptations and therefore increases the safety while driving.
