KNOTS – Knowledge-Transfer System

There are many different forms of care available today for care-dependent persons: alongside mobile care services, care is also provided by family members, neighbours, friends or voluntary services. The goal of the KNOTS project is to develop a server-based mobile documentation and information platform for both professional care providers and service personnel for domestic technology and emergency call systems on the one hand and private caregivers on the other. This communication instrument will allow both professional and informal caregivers to easily store technical instructions or medical and personal information and to subsequently access this information as required.  Requirements relating to data protection and their technical implementation are also part of the research work. Commercially available tablet PCs will be used as the operating devices and will allow information to be saved in the form of texts, photos, videos and audio recordings. Speech recognition will be implemented to permit simple and accessible operation. This will allow files to be indexed and located by means of key words

Responsibilities of Fraunhofer IDMT in Oldenburg

Fraunhofer IDMT's Oldenburg Branch for Hearing, Speech and Audio Technology HSA is responsible in the project for developing the automatic speech recognition technology for a so-called large vocabulary continuous speech recognition (LVCSR) so that the information can be indexed and found in the KNOTS database. A second task area of the Oldenburg Branch is involvement of end users and experts in development and evaluation of the operating interfaces.

The project KNOTS is funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the European Union.

Speech Recognition for Products and Processes

Speech detection systems allow operation of technical systems without visual or physical contact. The speech recognition technology of the Fraunhofer IDMT in Oldenburg functions robustly - with and without an internet connection.
