VISTA4F – Virtual Street - Virtual Reality: Funk, Road, Vehicle and Driver

The ProExzellenz center VISTA4F addresses current social issues of the megatrends mobility, energy, safety and the environment exploring these disciplines using the vehicle, information and media technology as well as communication sciences. It focuses on measuring, testing and evaluation methods of virtual reality by precisely fitting existing methods and devices and their extension with respect to user centered issues.

Responsibilities of Fraunhofer IDMT

Fraunhofer IDMT is a partner of the TU Ilmenau in this project. IDMT task is to research methods for developing a virtual test environment for the evaluation of acoustic properties of the vehicle or component groups under realistic audiovisual conditions.

The research work includes the following priorities:

  • Methods for measuring the acoustic behavior of real vehicles and components as input data for an interactive reproduction,
  • Coupling of an interactive stereoscopic visualization and acoustic wave field synthesis to realistic audio-visual reproduction,
  • Exploration of methods for real-time synthesis of acoustic room simulation and directional characteristics of sound sources, as well as the
  • Evaluation of perception.
