Fraunhofer IDMT-HSA shows Drone Detection at Drone Days 2026

Hear drones before you see them: The Fraunhofer IDMT in Oldenburg will provide a hands-on insight into its developments in acoustic drone detection and localization at Drone Days 2026. On August 27 and 28, interested visitors can experience the technology live on the outdoor grounds in Hatten and talk with Fraunhofer experts. Demonstrated on the “Hearing Car,” visitors can experience how UAVs can be acoustically detected by the vehicle.

Reliably detect drones acoustically

Acoustically detect and locate drones—even without a line of sight

Small, hard-to-detect drones are creating new threat scenarios for sensitive areas and critical infrastructure. Particularly in the case of covert approaches, complex terrain, or limited visibility, visual and radar-based systems reach their limits.

The Fraunhofer IDMT in Oldenburg is developing AI-based technologies for the acoustic detection and localization of drones. The systems analyze characteristic noise patterns of UAVs and enable reliable detection—regardless of visibility conditions. This allows drones to be detected early, classified, and spatially localized.

Get a hands-on look at the solution and exchange ideas with our experts: At Drone Days 2026 on August 27 and 28, interested visitors can experience the technology live on the outdoor grounds in Hatten. Our Fraunhofer experts Christian Rollwage, Moritz Brandes, and Christian Colmer will demonstrate the acoustic detection technology on the demo vehicle “The Hearing Car.”
