Acoustic monitoring of underwater sounds to optimize aquaculture operations

At Aquaculture Europe 2025, Europe's leading trade fair and conference for aquaculture, Fraunhofer IDMT will present an AI-based acoustic monitoring system for the intelligent surveillance of aquaculture facilities.

The focus is on using the technology for the early detection of technical faults, for example in pumps or ventilation systems. A demonstrator will show how hydrophones are used to record and classify the inflow of water and air and compare it with previously defined target values. This enables the automatic detection of noticeable deviations, such as blocked pipes, defective pumps or changed operating conditions.

In addition to monitoring equipment, the technology also offers potential for monitoring the feeding behaviour and health of fish. Acoustic signals provide information about feeding activity, stress or possible diseases – without any visual monitoring or intervention in the system.

Experience the demonstrator live at the "Aquaculture@Fraunhofer" stand 173 and learn more about the versatile applications of acoustic monitoring technology in modern fish farming.

Together with Fraunhofer IMTE, Fraunhofer IME and the companies Kunststoff Pranger, WEDA Dammann & Westerkamp, Abyzz, Deltec and Saga Aqua, we look forward to seeing you at our joint stand!
