Use Case: EEG to go: The mobile sleep lab

Your challenge

The demand for diagnostic options for sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea, exceeds the capacity of sleep laboratories. Existing home monitoring systems are mostly unable to replace laboratory measurements. The reason: They often do not record brain activity, or the data quality is insufficient. However, recording a meaningful electroencephalogram (EEG) is essential for an accurate assessment of sleep-related micro-events.

Your benefit

In Oldenburg, we are developing sensor systems for mobile EEG recording as well as classification models for analysis. The easy-to-apply, flexible electrode grids (“trEEGrids”) are placed on the face and enable the recording of a high-quality, multi-channel EEG overnight. Thanks to their ease of use and greater comfort, longer observation periods are possible. This advances our understanding of sleep medicine based on sleep EEGs, for example, in predicting conditions such as dementia or in identifying biomarkers, such as those associated with ME/CFS.

Extras

Our solutions for recording a mobile EEG can also be used in other applications, such as monitoring a driver's condition—including drowsiness and attention—in a car or airplane.
