Zahra Mansour wins the DAS I DAGA 2025 Poster Award

The 51st Annual Meeting on Acoustics – DAS | DAGA 2025 took place in Copenhagen from March 17 to 20, 2025. The work of Zahra Mansour from the Fraunhofer IDMT in Oldenburg was presented there with the poster “Analysing bowel sound signals: Insights from SonicGuard Data Collection” and was honored with the DAS I DAGA 2025 Poster Award.
The “SonicGuard” project is a collaboration between the Acoustic Event Detection group of the Oldenburg Branch for Hearing, Speech and Audio Technology HSA of the Fraunhofer IDMT, the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg and the Pius Hospital Oldenburg. It is dedicated to the long-term monitoring of bowel sounds or potentially also of other bodily sounds, such as those of the lungs or heart. A device is being developed for this purpose that uses four sensors attached to the abdomen to record intestinal sounds and send them to an analysis platform. The results are visualized in an app and other digestive data is noted. In the project, data from test subjects was collected and a possible correlation of intestinal sounds with physiological factors such as electrolyte levels, digestive stages and caffeine consumption was researched.
In the future, intelligent, long-term sound analysis of bodily sounds could serve as a diagnostic tool for doctors and provide important information about the health of patients.
We wish Zahra Mansour great success in her work on this important project!
